Organised by the London Irish Supporters' Club, this often imitated but never bettered tournament is an opportunity for overweight, unfit, poorly skilled and generally wobbly rugby players to take part in a charity sevens competition with other like-minded (and -bodied) individuals. CHP Consulting, accordingly, found no difficulty in fielding a team.
Andrew Denton, Marketing Director of CHP, said, “CHP was tremendously excited to sponsor this year's event. We believe that, to continue to thrive at this most green of grassroots levels, rugby should remain fun above all else.” The tournament raised over £5,000 on behalf of supported charities The Samaritans, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, and Wooden Spoon, rugby's charity supporting disadvantaged children.
The CHP Consulting team fought bravely and reached the semi-final of the Shield competition, eventually succumbing 17-7 to a talented side from Beaconsfield. CHP captain Phil Haworth said, “It's been another brilliant day, despite the torrential rain and the pitches' resemblance to an African savannah! We're looking forward to returning next year to continue our support for this valuable and worthwhile charity tournament.”
